Spit Shading on Engraved Wood @ Breva

Join me for an immersive workshop in the historically rich medium of spit shading! Spit shading is a technique that developed in the 20th century tattoo scene, used by artists to create vibrant flash sheets by blending ink on paper. I will begin with some techniques using alcohol ink on watercolor paper, then show participants how to apply those techniques to wood plaques engraved with original american traditional style illustrations. Participants can choose from one of 3 pre-engraved plaques to ink up and expect to leave the class with a finished, vibrant work of art!

Screen printing at Breva Creative

Screen printing is a versatile and widely used printing technique that involves transferring ink onto a substrate through a mesh screen. Whether you plan on creating custom T-shirts or producing fine art prints, screen printing is a fun, detail-oriented process that combines precision and creativity, making it a popular choice for both beginners and seasoned professionals worldwide.

If you have a specific item that you would like to screen print, feel free to bring it. We currently can only print on cotton fabric, no polyester. We will provide blank shirts if you wish to use them instead. Please send a high quality .png or .jpg file to brevacreative@gmail.com at least 48 hours in advance of the class. Otherwise, we will have you use one of our standard exposure images. File will have to be a single solid color.

Here’s a short list of the knowledge you’ll walk away with in this class:

  • How to coat your screens with emulsion and expose them

  • Color separations

  • Physical printing

  • Registration

  • Tips, tricks, and general knowledge
